About Denise

In her role as Associate Director, Denise  supports the strategic and operational delivery of services. She is based in Wolverhampton and works as a Speech & Language Therapist with mainstream and special schools across Shropshire and Dudley. 

Interests & Specialisms

Before qualifying as a Speech and Language Therapist (SaLT), Denise spent many years in a senior role supporting children, young people and adults with learning disabilities in community settings.  She later moved into the NHS as an Assistant SaLT later completing her professional training. 

Denise has extensive experience supporting children and young people with complex communication, feeding and swallowing needs. Her clinical specialism is Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC), particularly for children with complex learning difficulties and disabilities. She is passionate about ensuring that every child has a ‘voice’ – however that voice may be expressed – and works creatively and collaboratively to make this a reality.   

Denise qualified as an Expert Witness and now undertakes civil litigation work alongside her clinical practice.   

Denise is also actively engaged in practiced-based research.  She jointly developed a screening tool for schools to help identify and support communication needs for pupils functioning below National Curriculum Level 1reflecting her ongoing commitment to improving access, inclusion and outcomes for children with the most complex needs.
